Our story

A family-centred approach rooted in lived experience

Autism Guide Support grew from lived experience in our own family and a simple belief: everyday moments can hold possibilities for connection, participation, and independence.

Why we exist

Families may have information, referrals, and professional services, yet still need practical support for everyday situations at home and in the community.

Autism Guide Support is being formed to bring a family-centred approach to those everyday moments—one real challenge, one practical activity, and one meaningful next step at a time.

An idea inspired by an everyday moment

The approach was inspired by a father’s experience making an omelette with his daughter. That experience shaped a belief that a difficult everyday moment can sometimes become an opportunity for connection, participation, and independence.

The child stays at the centre. The parent is the guide. The community is the support.

How our approach works

  • The autistic child

Remains at the centre of every decision.

  • The parent or caregiver

Acts as the trusted guide for everyday activities.

  • Support Partners

Contribute knowledge, resources, encouragement, and practical support without taking control of the family’s journey.

From family experience to community support

Autism Guide Support is a new initiative, starting with families in Mississauga and Peel Region. Our programs are for all ages, with a current focus on children ages 8–15.

The Everyday Guide Lab is new within the organization and is currently being piloted.
