The Everyday Guide Lab: a family-centred pilot
The Everyday Guide Lab starts with one difficult everyday situation and helps a family explore a practical activity connected to the child’s interests and the family’s priorities.
The approach comes from lived family experience. The Lab is new within Autism Guide Support and is currently being piloted.
Request to join the pilotOne challenge. One practical activity. One next step.
Families often navigate everyday situations at home and in the community alongside information, referrals, and professional services. The Lab’s approach begins by understanding one situation and the child and family involved.
The child remains at the centre of each decision. A parent or caregiver guides the process, with the child’s interests, needs, and communication considered along the way.
How the Everyday Guide Lab works
-
Step 1
Listen and understand
Explore what is happening, when it happens, and what the child may enjoy, need, or communicate.
-
Step 2
Design and try
Consider a safe, meaningful activity connected to the child’s interests and the family’s priorities.
-
Step 3
Reflect and grow
Review the experience, make adjustments, and choose one realistic next step.
